12 May Novales en Cantabria.
Novales is a small village near to Santillana, known in these parts for its lemon and orange groves. These trees are not really cultivated so far north in Spain and are normally seen down on the Mediterranean coastline. However, Novales seems to enjoy its won peculiar microclimate, which means that lemons have been traditionally grown here to supply the local ports to combat scurvy among the sailors.Novales also has the 16th century renaissance church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and many noble houses, each with its own lemon grove.Nearby is the 18th century church of San Martín, built by a local indiano, the first count of the Tagle family- Juan Antonio de Tagle. The two towers flanking the entrance clearly show the influence of colonial art; Tagle was an important figure in the Viceroyalty of Peru, where he had emigrated as a child
